About

This is THE place to go for the latest ramblings by Superponte: Geek extraordinaire! Here is a bit on me. It was written for Myspace a ways back, so take it for what it is.

My name is Michael Ponte.

I am a graduate of Joseph Case High School in Swansea, MA (class of ’97). I am a graduate of Bristol Community College. While there I was elected to the Student Senate where I served as Secretary, and Chairman of the Constitutional Revision Committee. I also became a member of the Phi Theta Kappa honor society and wrote for the school newspaper. I am presently enrolled at UMASS Dartmouth for Accounting.

I am the manager of a popular Restaurant called Chad’s Chowderhouse. I have been with them since 1995. The good Citizens of Swansea were kind enough to elect me as a Recreation Commissioner. My term in office was 1999-2001.

In addition to my many other talents (heh), I am a performing musician. I have been playing the trumpet since 1989. Although I am on a brief hiatus from playing, I am a past member of the Swansea Community Musicians: a non profit organization dedicated to bringing music to nursing homes and public places in the Greater Fall River Area. I have been volunteering with them since April 2002. I am also a semi-regular player with the Bay State, and North Tiverton Bands.

When I am not at home, work, school, or playing the trumpet, I can be found doing an amazing assortment of things.

I am a lifelong comic book, movie, TV and Sci-fi fan. I can usually be seen at the Supermegafests in Framingham, MA as well as the Chillertheater Cons inSecaucus,NJ. I try to attend Comic-con International in San Diego as often as I can, and I have been to ALL FIVE Star Wars Celebrations. I have recently started attending New York Comic Con, so look for me there!

I am a reader. Give me some books and some time, and I will be quite contented. Among my favorite authors are: Arthur C. Clarke, Charles Bukowski, Ayn Rand, Issac Asimov, Carl Sagan, Frank Herbert, Tom Clancy, Stephen King, Michael Chrichton, C.S. Forester, Orson Scott Card, Colleen McCullough, J.K. Rowling.

I am a tremendous fan of far too many comic writers to list, but Geoff Johns, Brian Bendis, J.M. Straczynski, Neil Gaiman, Alan Moore, Gail Simone, and Greg Rucka are a good place to start. All Time favorite artists? Batman: Jim Aparo, Superman: Jim Lee, Spidey: McFarlane.

I am also a fan of video games. The Final Fantasy series for Nintendo and Playstation WAS a particular favorite of mine (until they wrecked it). I also enjoy the Star Wars, Caesar, Civilization, Zelda, Halo, and Mario game series. I have an XBox 360 and a lot of my gaming can be found there.

I am also a player of that little game called “World of Warcraft”. My lvl 85 Human Warlock “Dubiel”, and level 80 Dwarf  Hunter “Smelliana” are both in the Ancient Sun Guild (Alliance) on Mannoroth Server.

At the moment, I am the Guild Leader of Rebel Ground Forces: A game club for Star Wars FPS, and More importantly- The Old Republic!

I have been pretty fortunate. When I was 19 years old, I made a list of the top 20 people I wanted to meet in my life. This list included:

Bruce Campbell, William Shatner, Leonard Nimoy, Michael J Stracyinkzy, Jerry Seinfeld, Larry Hagman, Roy Scheider, Mark Hammil, Carrie Fisher, Dan Jurgens, Quentin Tarantino, Renee O’Connor, Lucy Lawless, Adam West, Joss Whedon, Adrienne Barbeau, Stan Lee, Robert Vaughn, David Bowie, and Sean Connery.

Well out of that list, I have met all but connery, bowie, tarantino, lawless, and royscheider. Thats right, I knocked off 75% of that list. I even met 3 of them in 1 DAY!! (campbell, Lee and JMS). So, below is an updated list of those that I would like to meet before they, or I, Die.

David Ortiz, Sean Connery, David Bowie, Johnny Knoxville, Gene Hackman, Will Ferrell, Vince Vaughn, Paul Giamotti, Jet Li, Jackie Chan, Uma Thurman, Quentin Tarantino, Lucy Lawless, Jeff Bridges, Ewan McGregor, Mel Brooks, Dave Golez (voice of Gonzo, Dan Akroyd, Danny and Richard Elfman, Sid Caesar, Chevy Chase, David Tennant, Sarah Nixey, Anna Faris, Steve Martin, Stephen King, and David Lynch.
